Fixing A Hole

A peaceful place in Oregon. Land of my wildest dreams.

Hey kids. Here I am. For the past month we've been road-trippin'-it! We had a blast and I have tons of photos to share with you. Like, several posts worth. I may even crash all of blogspot but there are just too many fun things to show you.

After our road-trip we were only home for 3 days before heading back to UT for my brother Trevor's wedding. I also have many photos of that to show you. My husband has some mad photography skillz, I tell you. Can't wait to show you.

So we've been home for about a week now and I've spent the entire time trying to drag myself out of Post-Vacation Depression (PVD), a supreme lack of interest and motivation for anything, fatness, laziness and more sitting around feeling fat, lazy and unmotivated. I have read a lot of books in the past week though, which was a lot of fun.

Last night I finally started my running program back up. Again. From the beginning. About a month into the program I got seriously bad medial tibial stress syndrome ("shin splints" - I've been told that term is out-dated and doesn't describe what I had) and had to quit training. The plan was to rest for 2 weeks to see if it healed (which it did), but by the time 2 weeks had passed, we were leaving for our road-trip and blah blah blah. So, finally I'm back. And it has seriously helped make me feel a lot better mentally and physically -- even after just one day. So I'm excited to keep it up.

I only have 8 weeks until the Santa Monica 5K -- which is 5 weeks shy of finishing the 13 week program -- but I'm still going to do the 5K. My goal is just to get a better time this year than when I ran it in 2006. I can't wait!

So anyway, I have like 15 posts to share the past month with you. I missed all you peeps and for those of you with blogs, I have been reading them and loving every post but it was hard to comment using my iPhone. I can do better now. :)

Here we go!

Yay! Cara is back!

OK, prior to the whole pregnancy thing Stephen and I were part of this pretty serious training program with an actual professional trainer person that we know and love (http://aarongillies.blogspot.com/). Anyway, one of the main reasons we started doing his program was that even with fancy running shoes that were supposed to help with shin splints I was still getting them and they hurt so bad I could barely walk (the other reason was so I could be prepared run the Nike Women's half marathon in San Fran in Oct. '09). I guess you tend to get shin spints because the muscles in your quads are tense and/or have knots in them. After every workout Aaron made me do some serious "foam rolling". The first few times it hurt really bad and I felt like I was all bruised in my butt and thighs, but it really helped with the shin splints.

You can buy a foam roller on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Foam-Roller-Full-Round-36/dp/B000T87A56/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1219786886&sr=1-6). And basically all you do is sort of roll your body back and forth on it. Sometimes you have to kind of contort yourself into weird positions to get to all the spots (like inner thighs).

Sorry that was such a long comment, but I wanted you to know that there is hope for shin splints! :)

Hurray! I missed you. I feel so bad about your PVD because I can totally feel it, just by you talking about it. It's the worst. Your husband does take such good pictures, I can't wait to see. I just did my first wedding last weekend and I never realized what a long night that can be. I can't believe your brother is married!! None of mine are yet and I will seriously feel old when they start having kids. Good luck with the 5k, I saw on the news today that people who run regularly put off aging for 16 years. Or something like that. I know, that didn't make sense, so they must have said it differently. Or course sometimes the news just doesn't make sense. Right?
